Tim O’Hanlon Strategic Management Services (TOSMS) is a specialist consultancy focussed on transforming governance paradigms with the wisdom of decades of driving change in large corporations arising from global control failures such as Y2K, the dot-com crash, the global financial crisis and the recent pandemic. Applying best thinking of the day to solve these challenges and then having the benefit of hindsight over decades in this field, give TOSMS a unique advantage when helping clients rethink their governance paradigms.
The overwhelming response from regulators to these failures has meant an avalanche of regulations that TOSMS has had the benefit of helping clients implement over many years - from the licensing of global financial institutions to the protection of personal information processed by these organisations. This has added to the learnings by TOSMS over decades of regulatory transformation.
We understand the destructive nature of today's governance paradigms that are no longer fit for purpose and we offer our clients alternative governance practices, standards and structures that can revolutionise governing bodies' ability to meet the growing challenges they face in a world that is increasing in complexity and demanding quality decision-making at pace against a backdrop of information challenges and a growing urgency to get the long game right.

Our Founder
Our founder, Tim O’Hanlon, has had over 30 years of hands-on experience in driving a multitude of governance change programs in complex environments that included the global implementation of a new integrated governance model for a financial services group that lost significant share value during the subprime crisis, the licensing of a Global 2000 financial services group and bank as a result of regulator interventions such as the FSMA (UK) and FAIS (SA) regulations, and numerous pervasive and paradigm-shifting regulations dealing with listed companies, financial services, banking, anti money laundering, data protection, credit provision, consumer protection and other areas of specialisation.
Prior to that he headed up the corporate planning division for a Fortune 500 multinational financial service provider where he developed his capabilities in all aspects of strategy formulation and execution.
His earlier career began with graduating from the South African Naval College as a commissioned officer and qualifying as an electrical engineer at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. He then ran engineering projects in Naval Logistics Command and progresed to become a Lieutenant Commander in charge of Information Systems across all Naval directorates with responsibility for preparing the annual Naval Logistics Information Master Systems Plan and implementing major IT programmes. After a successful career in the military he moved into the private sector where he headed up planning, finance and client service for the central computer division of a major insurance group.
